'Fortunate among the unfortunate' NC's Choi avoids surgery..."Will rest for 4-6 weeks"

Good news. Choi Sung-young (NC Dinos), who suffered an orbital fracture after being hit in the face by a pitch, will avoid surgery.

NC manager Kang Myung-ho spoke about Choi ahead of the team's home game against the LG Twins of the 2023 KBO on Nov. 21 at Changwon NC Park.

Choi suffered an unexpected injury when he started the game against LG at the same venue on the previous day (20th). In the top of the third inning, Choi was hit in the left cheek by a pitch from leadoff hitter Moon Bo-kyung.

After struggling to get up in pain, Choi was eventually taken off the field in an ambulance. According to the NC team, he was diagnosed with an orbital fracture. It is expected that he will not need surgery.

Manager Kang Myung-ho said, "It's a good thing. He was diagnosed with a fracture, but they said he doesn't need surgery. For now, he will be resting for four to six weeks. After that, we'll have to see how he recovers."

"There were three fractures (in Choi's cheekbones)," Kang continued, "and the doctors said it would be better to treat it naturally rather than surgically. We double-checked with two hospitals and they agreed."

Choi, who replaced native left-handed ace Koo Chang-mo, who was sidelined with a microscopic left forearm flexor strain, had a stellar record of 4-0 with a 2.57 ERA in seven appearances this season. The news of his injury will only add to Kang's frustration.

"I'm very disappointed. It's a shame because Choi Sung-young has shown great form from May to now, while domestic starters are having difficulties." He sighed.

Kang has seen many players get hit in the face by balls during his career. The aftermath made him freeze in place and close his eyes when Choi Sung-young was hit.

"When I was playing, I saw Choi Sang-duk get hit, I saw Kim Won-hyung (SSG Landers) get hit, and when I was at Doosan (as a coach), I saw Kim Myung-shin get hit. I was heartbroken," he said, "and I think I was hoping (Choi) wasn't seriously injured."

In Choi's place will be Eric Pedi, who is 10-1 with a 1.74 ERA this season and has established himself as the league's best foreign ace. He has been out of the 토토사이트 first-team roster since being diagnosed with a right forearm flexor strain on Nov. 14, but has been rehabbing and working to improve his condition.

Kang said, "Pedi threw a long toss and groundball today. We received a report that there is no major abnormality. We're thinking about scheduling him for a game tomorrow after he pitches in the bullpen. If there are no major problems, Pedi will take Choi Sung-young's place."

However, Kang Shin-ho 해외안전놀이터 추천 made it clear that the team will not rush Pedi's return if he is not feeling well.

"We will check his (Pedi's) bullpen pitching tomorrow," Kang said, adding, "If Pedi is not available, we are thinking about Jeon Jae-min, who is our long reliever."

Meanwhile, NC's lineup was Son Asub (right fielder), Park Min-woo (second baseman), Park Gun-woo (designated hitter), Jason Martin (left fielder), Kim Sung-wook (center fielder), Yoon Hyung-jun (first baseman), Seo Ho-cheol (third baseman), Park Se-hyuk (catcher), and Kim Joo-won (shortstop). The starting pitcher is Shin Min-hyuk.
